M.S. Dhoni – The best Captain of IPL 2014

MS Dhoni will be leading the Chennai Super Kings side during Indian Premier League 2014 just like the previous 6 editions of the tournament. The name M.S. Dhoni in itself is enough for every Chennai Super Kings fan to feel optimistic about their title hopes and this year in IPL 2014 it’d be no different.

Dhoni in IPL 7

IPL 2014 would be one of the most challenging editions for most teams having newly acquired a number of new faces during the auction in February. M.S. Dhoni will be all geared up to lead the challenge for the IPL 2014 title for Chennai Super Kings but with a new opening pair and relatively weak bowling line-up, M.S.Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings may face some problems.

As a captain though there aren’t many better in IPL 2014 than M.S. Dhoni to lead the side. Cool, calm, composed and always having that ability to touch something and turning it to gold. The Chennai Super Kings though, head into IPL 2014 having surrounded by a lot of controversy. With the owners and their connections to spot-fixing and the inclusion of M.S.Dhoni’s name amidst all this controversy was not the best build up to the tournament that M.S.Dhoni or anyone related to Chennai Super Kings would have wanted.

The previous campaigns have all been successful ones for M.S. Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings having won the IPL twice already in 2010 and 2011 and a win during IPL 2014 would complete a hat-trick of titles for the Chennai Boys. But it’s not always been Whistle Podu for the men in yellow having failed at the final hurdle three times already. The last two editions saw Chennai Super Kings and M.S. Dhoni lose out to Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians in 2012 and 2013 respectively and losing out to Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals in the opening edition of the IPL.

But if there’s one person out there who can defy the odds and complete the hat-trick of titles for Chennai Super Kings then it’s M.S. Dhoni. The man with the midas touch can turn around almost everything and with such a calm head on those shoulders it’d not be a surprise if Dhoni would overturn all the odds, records and the controversies stacked against him.

With Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith, M.S Dhoni has a very explosive opening pair to work with. The ever so dependable Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja add to that fire power along with captain fantastic himself who is one of the best, if not the best, finishers in the game today.  Ashwin and Mohit Sharma provide some decent bowling options with the jury still out of Ashish Nehra’s buy.

M.S. Dhoni will need all the firepower from his teammates but more importantly will need himself at his optimum best. Having an average of over 38 with over 2200 runs at a strike rate over 140, M.S. Dhoni will be a crucial element in everything that the Chennai Super Kings desire to achieve this season. He has done it twice and being the most consistent team among all the others, Chennai Super Kings once again will start the tournament as favorites and who knows, a bit of Dhoni magic and the IPL 2014 title might just be coming home to Chennai Super Kings. Gear up Chennai Super Kings fans, time to whistle podu!
